Moscow Festival Ballet: The Sleeping Beauty.
George Mason University Center for the Arts,
Concert Hall,
Fairfax, VA.
"Audiences are transported to a world of fairy tale princesses, malevolent witches, storybook kingdoms, and true love’s kiss in this most cherished ballet.
Considered the crowning jewel of Petipa’s career, The Sleeping Beauty is the magical tale of a beautiful princess who waits in slumber to be awakened by the
kiss of her prince. Opulent costumes and sets, Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score—which he thought was perhaps his best piece of music—and the elegant movements
of these extraordinary dancers result in an evening of breathtaking artistry. Wishing to bring together the best of Russian ballet, Sergei Radchenko, legendary
principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, founded this esteemed company of leading Russian dancers in 1989. “The dancers of the Moscow Festival Ballet spoke to the
soul through the body.” (Post and Courier)

Moscow Festival Ballet: Cinderella.
George Mason University Center for the Arts,
Concert Hall,
Fairfax, VA.
"The timeless fairy tale ballet comes to the Center this season to delight the young and not so young alike. Its exquisite costumes, lush scenery, comical evil
stepsisters and, of course, Prokofiev’s exuberant score make this one of the most beloved ballets of all time. The jubilant production is the work of one of
Russia’s most esteemed ballet companies. “This was an afternoon that deserved ‘bravos’ within minutes of the opening steps.” (Las Vegas Review-Journal) Sergei
Radchenko, legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, founded the company in 1989 to create an ensemble that would bring together the highest classical
elements of the great Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet companies. Under his direction, leading dancers from across Russia now stage exciting new productions of timeless
classics."

By Johann Strauss II.
Original German libretto by Karl Haffner & Richard Genée.
English translation by Deena and Ted Puffer.
Phillip Collister, music and stage director.
Lee Mills, music director and conductor.
Presented by Music for the Stage & Towson University Orchestra, Department of Music.
Stephens Hall Theatre.
"Towson University Music for the Stage and University Orchestra present one of the most beloved operettas of all time, Die Fledermaus (The Bat).
The light-hearted story tells of the revenge taken by a certain Dr. Falke on his friend Gabriel von Eisenstein for playing a practical joke on him.
A lavish party replete with intrigue, disguises, and mistaken identities make for a collision of colorful characters and a delightful romp through
effervescent champagne with endless sparkle and humor. The fresh English translation by Ted and Deena Puffer (founders of Nevada Opera) captures the
wit and charm of the original German libretto. The score of Die Fledermaus is filled with fantastic arias, ensembles and stunning choruses with finely
crafted orchestrations that typify Strauss’ musical genius and which capture the spirit and energy of Viennese operetta. Presented fully staged in
English with full orchestra accompaniment. Maestro Lee Mills is the current Conducting Fellow for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. "

Bolshoi Ballet: Coppélia.
The Kennedy Center,
Opera House,
Washington, DC. "Moscow's renowned Bolshoi Ballet returns with an evening-length production of Petipa and Enrico Cecchetti's Coppélia, classical ballet's
greatest comedy, a story of mistaken identity and a beautiful mechanical doll.
Sergei Filin, Artistic Director with the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra.
Choreography by Marius Petipa and Enrico Cecchetti.
Revival and new choreographic version by Sergei Vikharev.
Music by Léo Delibes.
One of the oldest and greatest ballet companies in the world, the Bolshoi Ballet returns following its successful February 2010 engagement of Spartacus,
which the Washington Post praised for striking "an effective balance between juicy melodrama…and gold-standard ballet finesse to curl your toes." Led by
new Artistic Director Sergei Filin, one of the Bolshoi Ballet's former stars, Moscow's renowned Bolshoi Ballet performs the evening-length production of
Petipa and Cecchetti's Coppélia, classical ballet's greatest comedy, a story of mistaken identity. The enigmatic Coppélia, believed to be the daughter of
the reclusive toy-maker Coppélius, sits on her father's balcony, seemingly oblivious to the world around her. Her neighbor, the feisty Swanilda, is angered
by Coppélia's aloof attitude, and becomes even more alarmed when her fiancé Franz begins to take more than a passing interest in the girl. When she breaks
into Coppélius's house to confront her rival, she soon realizes that Coppélia is not quite what she seems."

Paris Opera Ballet: Giselle. "Making a rare international appearance, Paris Opera Ballet
brings their beautiful production of the classic evening-length ballet Giselle, choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot.
Brigitte Lefèvre, Director of Dance with the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra.
Choreography by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot.
Music by Adolphe Adam.
Making a rare international appearance--on their first American tour in more than a decade--Paris Opera Ballet returns to the Kennedy Center for the
first time since 1993 with six performances of the beloved ballet Giselle, one of the great creations in the history of the Paris Opera Ballet. First
performed in 1841, Giselle remains the quintessential romantic ballet, not only virtuoso, but also mysterious, gentle, and melancholy. Carlotta Grisi,
who both inspired and created the role, was the first to bring her supernatural touch of lightness to the myth, carried away by Adolphe Adam's score.
Choreographed for the Paris Opera Ballet by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, this same company, nearly two centuries later, performs it unlike any other.
Considered to be one of the world's finest ensembles, the ballet is run by the grande dame of French dance, Brigitte Lefèvre, who is herself a product
of the Paris Opera Ballet School and a former member of the corps. The company's origins can be traced back to 1661 with the foundation of the Académie
Royale de Danse and the Ballet de l'Opéra (1713) by King Louis XIV of France. Its repertoire is extensive, ranging from the major romantic and classical
ballets to creations by contemporary choreographers."
